The Phantom Tollbooth
My book of the imagination. If there is anyone out there who has not read this story, go and do so now. It is cheesy and dorky, but a lovely story. Now, for those of us who have read it. We know how cute it is. So how did this story change me? Well, remember I was a person who lived within my culture of literature. I hid among the book shelves and began to understand words that I cannot even dream of properly pronounce [because I have never heard them out-loud...only read them on a page]. During this time I developed a quirky sense of humor. This is one of the first books in the library that I liked for awhile. I was young and lonely and this book was a great companion. IT used literary terms and challenged my abilities with the twisting of words into jokes. I read the book in a nearly never ending cycle. I have it on my shelf right now with a book mark somewhere near the marketplace... hum... This book appealed to my lonely nerdy self and gave me a way to laugh and explore the world of literature through a child's eyes and understanding.
