Train Ride Reflections
I am sitting on a train as I write these recounts of how these stories have effected me. It is interesting, my generation began to use technology around the time we could walk. I got in trouble on the first day of Kindergarten for getting on the internet - which I had to show the teacher how for she had never been able to get onto the internet. That story sounds stupid, but it is how life has worked for many of mt generation. I can look around the train and it is interesting who uses technology. Many of the college students are writing, watching 80's movies [seriously.. breakfast club is going on in the row beside me], or reading. I can see a few Harry Potter books, some with classic works such as pride and prejudice, or silmarillion. Since we have been young many of us have been told to read or denied technology. I was not allowed a video game system. I played at friends houses or went to the library and read some books. We are an odd generation. One who was told we could do anything, but when we tried to become things our parents didn't want we were shunned. The generation who is struggling to become what it wants to be and change the world in the process. I want to change the world, eliminate hunger, live in a world that stresses education and learning rather than strife, live in a world that is all about equality rather than suppression. Should we let our parents stop our journey or prevent us from following dreams that may change the face of history? Probably not. It is not our parents lives- but our own. I know that coming home for me meant many challenges and discussions that have involved politics and social issues, because that is what I am passionate about. I care and I do not think that is a bad thing. Kindness and caring can help change a world that is use to suppression and aggression. This is just the world that I want to live in. Everyone has their world they desire. Maybe it is one that they can be successful in, or maybe one that they can achieve their dreams, find enough food, live without the fear of their school being shot up, or just one where they can read or have their dream job. Just because a dream is far fetched doesn't mean it is impossible. It is just something that the unlimited future could hold if we work for it. Remember, you can be or do anything you put your mind to no matter what it is or how far fetched it sounds.
